EGGED BUS LINES (Heb/Eng)
When logging
on, choose the ENG (English) information section located in the
upper left hand corner of the page. Bus fares
are subsidized for residents of of some places outsides of Jerusalem
(Example: to Kiryat Arba, Kochav Yaakov and Tel Tzion) and are
cheaper than a Jerusalem intra-city bus.
New
immigrants that live in YESHA are entitled to 'Chofshi-chodshi',
which is a bus card that lets a new immigrant travel all over the
country (except Eilat) as much as they like for a payment of about
150 NIS every month. In order to get the card, you need to supply
Veronique with 2 passport size pictures, a photocopy of your teudat
oleh, and of your teudat zehut. You will receive a card that is
good for a year. Take this card to the Central Bus Station where
you pay the 150 NIS and you receive a bus pass, good for that
month. You have 'rights' for this special discount for about a 3
year period. This is given to you also because you are a resident
of YESHA. If you should decide to leave your new home in YESHA,
please know that you will have to forfeit these rights.

From a respondant to
enquiry on Janglo:
I read the listing and
rather then make the
changes, I will share
our experiences here in
Shiloh.
Residents in Yesha need
to file an application,
with the Mazkirut of
your Yishuv, for an
Egged photo ID which is
good for each Lo'Azi
calendar year ending in
December.
The application requires
2 copies of passport
photos per Adult, a
photocopy of the Teudah
Oleh and the T.Z. for
each Adult. There is
currently no fee for
this.
The Mazkir sends that
application along with
all documents to the
office that processes
this. The processing can
take from 1-3 months.
Keep on the Mazkir of
your Yishuv.
Once you have received
your photo ID you go to
the Central Bus Station.
I work in Jerusalem so
that is where I go. I
assume that you can go
to the Central Bus
Station in any of the
metropolitan areas.
Bring the photo ID to
the regular ticket
office from the last 5
days of the month until
the 15th of the new
month (one spouse can
bring both photo IDs)
and current (Aug 2010)
fee 250 nis/ 'New Oleh
Chofshi-chodshi'.
This 'New Oleh
Chofshi-chodshi' will
give you passage on any
Egged bus either IN-City
or INTER-City anywhere
in Eretz Yisroel except
for Eilat (Even Egged
recognizes that Eilat is
outside of Biblical
Eretz Yisroel.)
I believe that these
'new olim rights'
currently run for up to
the first 4 years in
Israel and in YESHA.
