About Kochav
Ya'acov
back to top^ Kochav Yaakov is
located in the Binyamin region.
Kochav Yaakov is
a beautiful, friendly and lively mixed-observant Jewish community
just 6 miles (10 kilometers) north of Jerusalem. It is currently the
home to over 1000 families, many different synagogues and minyanim,
wonderful schools and activities for the youth.
Kochav Yaakov was
named after the illustrious Rav Yaakov Abuchatzeira z”l, who was
fondly referred to as ‘Abir Yaakov’, which also was the original
name of the community. A small group of idealistic and dedicated
families established the yishuv in 1984. Since then, it has grown
into a formidable satellite Jerusalem community offering a warm
friendly atmosphere, with fresh air, and a quality of life that is
impossible to achieve in the nearby city, less than 15 minutes away.
Kochav Yaakov is
slated to expand into a large suburb and one day to hopefully link
up with Jerusalem!
Residents back

Yaakov come from all over the globe; America, Argentina, Ethiopia,

above “Shlav Alef”. “Shlav Daled” is the newest section of
homes on the yishuv - it is located in the lower section of
the aerial map and comes around behind the Commercial
Center, which is itself located in the center of the yishuv.
There are
two caravan sections on the yishuv which house new
immigrants and young married couples. They are located in
the Giva and the Ma’arav – the areas in the top right hand
part of the map, right of Tel Tzion.

corner of the aerial map.

Physical Surroundings
back to top^ In addition to the stark beauty of these hills, there
is an intangible quality to Kochav Yaakov that is very
spiritual in nature. It can be sensed as you drive along the
tree-lined yishuv entry.
To the left is the new Shlav
Hey homes that hint to the growth spurt of the community.
Up the
hill is Tel Tzion and the sentry-like
visual quality of the apartment buildings on the outer ring
of the mount. To the right is the entrance to Kochav Yaakov
with a beautiful mosaic imbedded into the stone wall to
welcome and bless all who come. A sudden feeling of “home”
overtakes the senses and even without knowing a single
person, you feel as if you “belong”.
Absorption

are eager to welcome and absorb new immigrants and offer a
wonderful program to help new Olim. Even before you arrive,
preparations are made for an easier transition, an
especially true welcome while awaiting your lift. We offer
“family buddies” to help you get your bearings for the first
year, and it is soon clear that these “assignments” turn
into life-long friendships!
We have an aliyah councilor on staff to help olim in their
first year. Our councilor helps the oleh obtain the proper
registrations and paper work needed for an easier absorption
into the country. Please email Tamar for more information.
